CAPS Students Win Kansas Entrepreneurship Challenge
Three CAPS Innovate students capped off their year by taking 1st place in the Kansas Entrepreneurship Challenge. Alexis Ralston, Davi Sher and Sydney Howe have successfully launched Kalo Kit, an online based monthly subscription box that will consist of five natural beauty products from local Kansas City beauty/skincare companies. The KEC is for new, independent student-run ventures in the concept stage or seed stage. As the winners of the High School Division, Alexis, Davi and Sydney received a $10,000 cash prize.
Makeup and other beauty products are not regulated by the FDA, and contain cancerous chemicals like parabens and sulfates. Due to the lack of regulation, people are unaware of what they are putting on their skin. There is very little awareness for the natural and organic beauty companies that are currently on the market. The team used this information to identify a significan gap in the market. From there, Kalo Kit was borne. The individual Kalo Kits will feature different themes for each kit revolving around the seasons, with each product catering to that particular theme (ex: January/February-Rejuvenation, March-Bloom). Each kit will contain an info card with descriptions of each product and brochures of the featured companies for marketing purposes. Kalo Kit is currently working with five companies and has 15 companies lined up to work with in future months. Kalo Kit benefits customers by giving them the opportunity to improve their skin and body by eliminating hazardous chemicals in their daily products.
